Charlotte Hanna

The University of Texas at Austin’s Teach for America recruitment team is continuing our 2018 Corps Member features! We’re highlighting some of the fantastic individuals who have signed on as corps members, such a Eric Saldanha, in order to shed some light on an organization that focuses on eliminating educational inequity once and for all.

Today's feature is Charlotte Hanna! Charlotte, originally from Austin, is a senior Human Development and Family Science major here at the University of Texas. On campus, she has been involved in Kappa Alpha Theta, Global Medical Training, the UT Lab School, and as an Early Learner's Intern for the Thinkery. Her experience teaching Pre-Kindergarten at the UT Lab school and as an elementary counselor at Camp Sweeney have given her valuble experience for her classroom!

Charlotte will be teaching Elementary School in Dallas next fall. She has lived in Austin her entire life, so she can't wait for this new chapter to begin! Charlotte began college as a biology major, planning to pursue medical school, but her heart has always been with helping children. She has always loved kids & knew that they would be a part of her career in some capacity. When she heard about and was accepted by Teach For America, she was sold! After her two-year commitment, Charlotte plans to either "teach forever" or pursue a career as a child-life specialist who works with hospitalized children. No matter which path she ultimately pursues, Charlotte knows her experience in the classroom as a corps member will shape her future. "I have met many amazing people through this network. I cannot wait to start working and get to know and learn from more people in this work." Charlotte's advice to Longhorns considering applying is "GO FOR IT! I applied on a whim - I even had to buy my first suit for the interview. There is absolutely no harm in applying. I was super intimidated by the interview process. My advice to future applicants would be to have confidence!" We are very excited for Charlotte to get into the classroom next year! Stay tuned for next Tuesday's 2018 corps member highlight. If you would like more information, please reach out to our Recruitment Manager, Jorge Galan at Jorge.Galan@teachforamerica.org .
